چکیده

The Dolgov-Kawasaki instability discovered in the matter sector of the modified gravity scenario incorporating a −μ/R correction to Einstein gravity is studied in general f(R) theories. A stability condition is found in the metric version of these theories to help ruling out models that are unviable from the theoretical point of view. For example, the theories f(R) = R + αμ/R, where α and n are real constants and n > 0, are ruled out for any negative value of α.

We consider the singular configurations of gravitating gas [1] which could be used as a model for disk galaxies. The simplest steady configuration , which corresponds to rotation of stars around center gives flat rotational curve, provided the density distrubution has a tail, decaying as 1/r. This result based exclusively on Newtonian gravity and does not involve dark matter.

We present MOND analysis for several of the lowest mass disc galaxies currently amenable to such analysis–with (baryonic) masses below 4 · 108M⊙. The agreement is good, extending the validity of MOND and its predicted mass velocity relation, to such low masses. Subject headings: dark matter galaxies: kinematics and dynamics

We test if the latest Gold set of 182 SNIa in conjunction with the CMB shift parameter show a preference between the ΛCDM model, three wCDM models, and the DGP model of modified gravity as an explanation for the current accelerating phase of the universe's expansion. We consider flat wCDM models with an equation of state w(a) that is (i) constant with scale factor a, (ii) varies as w 0 + w a (1...
